Verizon plays the obvious card: its 4G trials are faster than 3G thumbnail

As the clock ticks down on Verizon’s opening salvo of commercial LTE availability, PR noise is growing into a dull roar — not to say we necessarily mind, considering how desperately we’re looking forward to more 4G footprint in the States.

Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard is perfect for your HTPC, not your Wii (video) thumbnail

For HTPC owners looking for the perfect couch-borne computer keyboard, this Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard looks like Natuzzi nirvana, packing QWERTY (with function keys) and a touchpad all in a package that should fall to the hand more comfortably than that Scientific Atlanta remote your cable company has saddled you with. There’s even a laser pointer, making it a snap to indicate strange shapes and symbols seen on Lost episodes — or to taunt the cats when an episode’s fifteenth plot twist leaves you disinterested

Microring transmissions are sure to resonate with people who hate wires thumbnail

You’ve probably seen sketches like the one above promising you complete cable independence since what, 1996? We’re not about to tell you this is the one technology that finally delivers on that utopian dream, but it’s surely one of the zanier attempts at it.

Rapoo 2900 wireless keyboard sports touchpad, Bluetooth, and that ineffable Rapoo charm thumbnail

Enough time has passed since the diNovo Edge wireless keyboard debuted that perhaps it’s time for a low(er) priced tribute — a Knickerbockers to Logitech’s Beatles, if you will. To that end, check out the Rapoo 2900: it sports a built-in touchpad, a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery and docking charger, and a Bluetooth / USB dongle. It’s a slight little thing (check out the comparison with a full-sized keyboard after the break) and it’ll cost you about $86.

Nokia’s Explore and Share concept uses super fast, mystery wireless thumbnail

The Nokia Research Center has another tech tease that gives us a glimpse into one of our many possible mobile computing futures. The so-called, Explore and Share concept starts by placing an N900 onto a “writer” that’s tethered to a PC at a retail store.

Pixel LV-WI Wireless Live View Remote Control: look out, family self-portraits thumbnail

We’ve been live viewing our photos on our fancy new-gen DSLRs for a couple years now, even piping that live sensor data into our computer with a first party app, or, gasp, shooting video our magical newfangled cameras. But we haven’t done this yet. Pixel Enterprise Limited has just announced its new LV-W1 Wireless Live View Remote Control, which beams a live DSLR view over that well-worn 2.4GHz channel to a handheld remote with a 3-inch 960 x 240 LCD

Nokia cancels NFC-equipped 6216 handset thumbnail

Visa may be pushing ahead to bring NFC to phones via microSD cards , but it looks like phones with built-in NFC capabilities have now suffered a bit of a setback, as Nokia has officially canceled its already delayed 6216 handset . That phone was a rather unimpressive candy bar in most respects, but it was the first such phone that would have tied NFC payments to a carrier’s SIM card, which Nokia had hoped would have been enough to at least give it a foothold, if not kick-start a wave of NFC handsets

We’re gearing up for Sony Ericsson’s big event here at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is being staged in the rather swank Opium nightclub — and as long as the phones are equally swank, we’ll be pleased. Sagem Orga’s SIMFi merges WiFi with SIM cards at long last, turns any phone into a hotspot thumbnail

Thought WiFi spectrum was congested now? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet, because SIM card provider Sagem Orga has hooked up with Telefonica to develop a marvel of modern technology called “SIMFi” that combines — you guessed it — WiFi with a run-of-the-mill SIM card like you’d slip in your cell. In practical terms, this means that you’re able to turn virtually any phone (or “classic handsets,” as the company calls them) into a WiFi hotspot accessible by authenticated laptops, MIDs, and miscellaneous wireless gadgets in the immediate vicinity.
