Droid 2 cases arrive at Best Buy, Droid 2s soon to follow? thumbnail

At this point, we’re starting to think that Motorola is intentionally (and cruelly) teasing us with its Droid successor. Today we can add to the parade of leaks preceding the Droid 2 ’s debut in the form of the above hard case, which has just landed in Best Buy’s storerooms. Before you go off on some conspiracy theory comparing this to the iPhone’s Bumper and questioning whether this Droid might need a jacket , you should be aware that Rocketfish does similar paraphernalia for the Droid Incredible, marking this out as an entirely un remarkable run-of-the-mill accessory

Motorola manages $162 million Q2 profit, turns that frown upside down thumbnail

It’s a good day here, because rather than poor ‘ol Sad Moto we get to bust out Happy Moto, as Motorola has released some good news in its Q2 financial report. Earnings were $162 million, up from $26 million this time last year . That sounds like a big jump, but compared to overall sales of $5.4 billion you can see things are still rather tight — especially since those sales were down from $5.5 billion the year before and all-important mobile device sales figures dropped six percent to $1.7 billion.

Apple keeps antennagate alive with Droid X’s ‘kill switch’ (video) thumbnail

We had a feeling Apple wasn’t done showing off the apparent reception woes of its competitors — after all, the company already updated once this week with the Nokia N97 mini . Now it’s going after Motorola’s celebrity of the moment (and known iPhone 4 bully ), the Droid X

Droid 2 and Android 2.2 fated to be together from the start, according to latest leaks thumbnail

You know, some people get married with less information about their partner than we already have about the Droid 2 . Today, we have a pair of independent leaks seemingly confirming that the second coming of Moto’s QWERTY-sportin’ Doer will be running Android 2.2 right out of the gate

Droid 2 being prepared for launch, set to arrive August 23rd? thumbnail

The Droid 2 ’s been leaking out all over the place in the past few weeks, but it looks like it’ll be another month before it officially hits shelves — we just got these shots from a packaging facility that’s handling the phone, which puts it right on schedule for that rumored August 23rd launch . We’re also told that the phone will definitely ship with an 8GB microSD card, and that pricing appears to be $199 on contract and $599 standalone, although those numbers could change. Just a few short weeks left, we suppose — although give the rate at which this thing is leaking, we’re thinking Motorola and Verizon might do well to push that date up a couple weeks

Motorola mini Droid slider caught by Mr. Blurrycam thumbnail

Okay, this one’s a complete and very welcome surprise — some extremely blurry pictures and a quick video of what appears to be a smaller Motorola portrait QWERTY Android slider for Verizon just popped up on the Chinese Hiapk forums — and yes, it’s got the glowing red Droid eye. We’re not sure if that means the Droid line is about to get a smaller midrange sibling or what, but Motorola’s definitely pushing out some of the more interesting Android form factors lately, and this mini Droid certainly fits right in with the Flipout and the Charm

Nokia Siemens picks up Motorola network infrastructure division for $1.2 billion thumbnail

Nokia Siemens has just announced that it will be purchasing Motorola’s wireless network infrastructure for a cool $1.2 billion in cash. This comes on the heels of an announcement by Moto that it would be splitting the company in two, one for Mobile Devices and one for Broadband and Mobility Solutions

Motorola’s rugged i1 coming to Sprint: July 25 for $150 on contract thumbnail

A solid four months after first seeing thing plastered across half of Las Vegas, Motorola’s i1 finally has a date with Sprint. The planet’s first Android-equipped smartphone with Nextel Direct Connect will go nationwide on July 25th (via telesales and websites; all other Sprint channels will see it on August 8th), bringing military spec ruggedness, push-to-talk capabilities and a certain ability to withstand all sorts of death grips. Unfortunately, Android 1.5 is a bit of a dinosaur at this point, but it’s still a heck of a lot better than that G’zOne Rock you’re currently toting

Verizon leaks another Droid 2, getting BlackBerry Storm 3, Curve 3, 10.1-inch tablet later this year? thumbnail

Now that the Droid 2 has officially reached “leaking like a sieve” status, we thought we’d toss you another couple shots of the Droid X’s QWERTY-equipped cousin, which we’re being told is locked for an August release on Verizon. If you’re more of the BlackBerry type, though, we’ve got some news for you, too: our source is telling us that both a Curve 3 and Storm 3 are “possible” for the holidays this year. If we had to guess, the Curve 3 is likely a variant of this 9300 we’ve been seeing lately, whereas the Storm 3 could be a version of the 9800 slider or an entirely new keyboardless slate.

Apple’s Steve Jobs: ‘no one’s going to buy’ a big phone thumbnail

In response to a question at its press conference today about whether Apple could’ve done anything to avoid its antenna issues with the iPhone 4, Steve took the opportunity to rip on bigger rivals, saying that making a phone so big ” you can’t get your hand around it” helps, but that “no one’s going to buy that.” We’re assuming he’s likely talking about the latest crop of 4-, 4.3- and 5-inch phones that include the Galaxy S series, the EVO 4G , Droid X , and Dell Streak , even going so far as to call them “Hummers” (we take it you don’t ever drive a Hummer, Steve?).
